funny fires.

The topic of fire isn't really funny, unless you're me. And unless you're referring to the very minor fires that we've experienced in the kitchen.
I decided to write about this because the other night I was laying in bed and I thought about the "fire blessing" and I seriously laughed out loud.

Sometime last year, Joel caught a pan of rice on fire in our kitchen. I won't elaborate on that one. Just know that it happened and it was hilarious and we didn't have rice that night.

More recently, I decided that I wanted to make bacon in the oven. On a cookie sheet. Don't judge me, I'm not a professional chef. It seemed like a great idea at the time. And at first it was great--no crinkling shrivling bacon--just perfectly cooked, flat bacon. And then I went to get it out of the oven and the bacon grease went streaming like a waterfall over the cookie sheet and into the oven.
Whoopsie daisies!
So I forgot about this incident the next day and forgot about my giant reminder post-it note that said "CLEAN OVEN". Another whoopsies.
Next night--baking potatoes in the oven. A few fall off and into the bacon grease. Smoke everywhere. Then they just caught on fire right before my eyes!
I ran into the laundry room where we store the fire extinguisher that came with our apartment. I laughed because seriously I never thought that I would be grateful for the ugly big red fire can.
Fortunately we didn't have to use it because I didn't want an even bigger mess. Instead I just held the trigger ready for those flames if they ventured out of the oven.
And then when we (finally) got to sit down to eat...

"....bless this food....and please bless that our oven won't burst into flames anymore."

Anyways, it was sort of not-funny because of the smoke everywhere, but sort of very-funny because of the fire. And mostly not-funny because our eyes BURNED all night long because smoke is not your friend.

work

I am very grateful for such a hardworking hubby.

Joel has been working 55 hour weeks doing tax returns ALL. DAY. LONG.
Thankfully this part of his internship lasts only a few weeks until tax season is over. Hallelujah.
Also, I am thankful that I randomly found a few of Joel's mission pics, which reminded me how hard he worked for two years in Brazil.

And speaking of work, I got a job as a "crew leader" for the 2010 Census...whatever that means. Honestly I have no idea what I'll be doing...the lady on the phone was practically a robot. I think I'm in charge of training the people that go door-to-door. My first day is next Monday!
