crawdad boil

Megan's blog just reminded me that I haven't posted pictures of the crawdad boil yet. Oops! To those of my friends not from the south, this is a giant party/feast/cookout where people eat lots of crawdads and kids swim in the lake.
When I first moved here and saw the signs for crawdad boils, I was like "what? people EAT those things?"
my brother brian and I used to catch crawdads from the bottom of the lake using a milk carton with a hotdog inside. we just liked to poke at them...if you would have told us that people actually eat these things, we would have laughed at you. and then thrown up a little.

but the real reason I hate these things is that all the frat boys at vandy had crawdad boils--except they always got too drunk to boil them all, so in the morning we would find these horrifying little vermin dragging themselves across the sidewalk. it was a little traumatic for me.

EAT ME. MMMM YUMMY.

ACTION SHOTS!

sophia didn't know what to think about them!

...and joel kept wearing his friend's hat.

CPR/AED/First Aid 101 AKA: my daily nightmare.

Okay, I just can't take it anymore.
I'm taking this online first aid/CPR/AED class. This requires an online textbook, or "e-book" which is just weird because each page loads and then won't go away, which is fine for normal textbooks, but NOT OKAY for books that have pictures in them.

There I am just innocently clicking through this book, first degree burns...second degree burn....third degree OH MY GOSH MY EYES JUST DIED THAT IS THE MOST AWFUL PICTURE IN THE WORLD!!!
That was day one.
Then, there I am again. The previous day's picture folded over and so easily forgotten. Oh, blood wounds today? great. wonderful. Good thing they don't actually show the--NOOOOOOOOOO AHHHHH MY EYESSSSSSSSSSS. I need to vomit now. I need my mommy. That person's ear is ripped off and why did they take a picture of it?! And oh yes, that is a hand that was stuck in a grinder...
And once again today, clearly by this time I should realize that I need to squint my eyes before clicking on a new page...
I don't want to go back to that tab. Oh please don't make me open it again. I knew that writing this post would give me some time to recover from seeing that guy's intestines coming OUT OF HIS CHEST, but now I think I should just go watch the bachelorette.

are we going to CATHY on saturday night? I hope so!!!!

Joel is taking the GMAT this Saturday bright and early.

I will be having an anxiety attack at approximately the same time.

Lots of looking miserable for these final 4 days:

And in case you were wondering what incentive Joel has to get a good score other than getting a graduate assistantship and having tuition paid for...we've decided that his score shall determine our celebratory dinner on Saturday night!
over 600 points = cathay (aka: CATHY!) asian bistro (his obsession with all-you-can-eat sushi)
550-600 points= chilangos mexican
under 500= can of progresso soup with a side of depression.

a green thumb...with a pretty manicure.

Someday I will have a big, beautiful garden. But for now, I have a balcony...

My lovely little lupine seed that I picked from a pretty plant last summer in Oregon...

Bought in the $1 spot at Target...
{later transplanted into two pots because there were so many seeds for only one dollar!}

And now...(the two on the right)

Herbs--thyme, lavendar, chives:

Also, I know you've been stressed about whether or not our honeymoon succulent was going to survive the winter. Well, it did. So you can breathe a sigh of relief.
Here it is:

Ugly, I know. It looked a lot prettier when I bought it at the beach in March 2009.

t.g.i.f.

If I could have one superpower, it would be to TELEPORT. Joel is probably tired of me telling him how much I want to teleport. But, really! How convenient for me and my airplane-phobia ways.

first up on my list for friday's destination:

but I would also settle for this:

last on my list: a visit to a very special weiney.

technology gurus around the globe need to speed it up and build me a teleporting machine.

its hot outside!

one (and maybe the only?) great thing about having a husband who works on a farm is that somedays I come home to hand-picked wildflowers. even sweeter is that he picks them and then crams them into a water bottle and then makes them look good again when he gets home. lovely!

(I'm just now learning photoshop...I made everything black and white except the yellow! wow!)
